Which wireless charger for iPhone 8 and iPhone X should you get?

The iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus and the upcoming iPhone X (pronounced “10”) are the first smartphones from Apple to offer native wireless charging inside their hardware. Many think that this could be a turning point for this more convenient way to charge your phone. But which wireless charger for iPhone should you get?

A number of devices support the Qi technology standard that’s used by the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. While Apple has not yet launched its own branded wireless charging pad, it has worked with two companies in developing new products designed to work with the new iPhones. It will also release its own charger, the large AirPower mat, sometime in 2018. In the meantime, we’ve got a list of the of the best wireless chargers available right now.

Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad

This wireless charger for the iPhone 8 and X is one of the two that Apple is selling for those phones on its store site. The Belkin pad is designed to send up to 7.5W. It has an LED indicator to let you know that your iPhone is charging up while on the pad. The pad can even charge your phone through a case that’s 3mm or thinner. Apple is currently selling the pad for $59.99

Mophie Wireless Charging Base

This is the other wireless charger for iPhone that’s being sold directly by Apple. It’s made by Mophie, a company best known for their battery cases, can send up to 7.5W of power to the iPhone. The pad itself is made of 360-degree non-slip TPU coating. It not only helps to protect iPhones from scratches. It also offers a more stable surface so owners can just place and forget the iPhone on the pad. You can get the Mophie base for $59.99 from Apple.

Belkin Boost Up 15W Wireless Charging Pad

If you’re getting an iPhone 8 or X and also own an Android phone that supports wireless charging, you might want to consider getting the Belkin Boost Up 15W Wireless Charging Pad. While the one sold directly by Apple offers 7.5W of transfer power, this pad can handled up to 15W, for phones that use the Qi standard but can get their power faster than Apple’s new handsets. There’s an embossed ring that shows the charging area on the pad, and its matte surface helps to hold phones down. It also works if a phone has a case that’s up to 3mm thick. Amazon is selling it for $69.99.

Choetech Wireless Charging Pad

The previous pads on this list have all been a little on the expensive side, but you don’t have to spend much for wireless charging options. The Choetech Wireless Charging Pad has a fairly larger surface area and an LED light around the pad to indicate when a phone placed on it is charging up. The LED light will changes brightness depending on the setting; it’s brighter in more direct lighting rooms and if the location is darker, it will dim. There’s also an integrated smart chip that is supposed to keep the pad from overcharging or getting hot. You can get the pad from Amazon now for just $13.99

Pleson Wireless Charging Pad

The Pleson pad is supposed to be one of the thinnest wireless chargers you can get, at just 0.24 inches. It also claims it generates less heat that many other pads, which of course is important for people who don’t want their phone to get too hot while charging. You can snap up this product on Amazon right now for just $12.95

Spigen Essential Wireless Charger

This wireless charger, built by accessory company Spigen, is compatible with the iPhone 8 and X, along with many Android phones. It doesn’t support fast charging (up to 9V) for the iPhone, but if you use a Spigen case on your iPhone, you will be happy to know that some of them will work with the pad. You can get the pad now for $24.99 on Amazon.

Seneo Wireless Charging Stand

Looking for a wireless charger for iPhone that does more than just charge up the phone? There are many wireless charging stands that allow users to charge up their compatible phones while watching a movie or surf the web. One of these charging stands comes from Seneo, and it could be very convenient for people who use their iPhone a lot for business, or just for a ton of fun. The Seneo stand is available on Amazon for $19.95.

HTOCINQ Wireless Charging Car Mount

If you are looking for a wireless charger for iPhone that you can use in your car, there are a number of those products available as well. One of them is made by oddly-named company HTOCINQ, and it’s designed to work placed inside your windshield with a suction mount, or connected to one of your car’s air vents. It contains a ball joint that rotates 360 degrees so you can get the best view. Be aware that this wireless charger won’t work with a phone in a case. It also charges up slower than the pads and stands we have previously listed (up to 5W). Amazon is currently selling it for $29.99.

Conclusion

The iPhone 8 and iPhone X should work with any Qi-based wireless charger. Since this standard is used on many high-end Android devices, new iPhone owners will have no shortage of choices.
