I only know Konami as the creator of my favorite game, Dance Dance Revolution. Interestingly, it turns out Konami makes other games too. Among those is the classic Castlevania series, which is getting a new instalment, according to an announcement made Tuesday.
Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is coming to Apple’s iOS this year. The game will feature popular characters from the series, and will have both co-op and multiplayer modes. According to Konami, players can fight with up to four players in real-time battles.
The game takes place in a future where antagonist Dracula has disappeared, leading to an era of peace. That peace soon comes to an end after a letter arrives, indicating that Dracula has been resurrected.
Grimoire of Souls will focus on government secret agent Genya Arikado, who is described as having “unworldly good looks” and “is unsociable and difficult to approach.” If I didn’t know better, I’d think they were describing me. As for the supporting character, Lucy, she is a research magician who houses the company in her laboratory. Both are new to the series, but other veterans will be present as well, including Simon Belmont, Alucard, Charlotte Aulin, Shanoa, and Maria Renard, all of whom are playable.
Castlevania was first released in 1986, and since then there have been numerous follow-ups. Netflix even released an animated series last year based on the video games. This latest instalment will be available at some point this year, although exact details are unknown. The game will be available in Japan soon as a closed beta, which you can sign up for here.
No word yet on when (or if) it will come to Android.
