Nest and Yale have been planning on making a smart lock together for quite a while now, but it seems like 2018 is the year that lock finally sees the light of day.

Just announced at CES 2018, the lock has been unveiled in all its glory, and it seems that it should actually work quite nicely with the Nest app now that the company has a lot more than just one product. Since Nest is now creating things like security cameras, the Yale lock will be able to integrate with these technologies to do things like turn off the cameras when a trusted source arrives home.

It’s totally button free, and works by utilizing a touch screen and a connection with a trusted phone using the Nest app. From the app you can do things like remotely lock and unlock your home, automatically lock the doors when you leave the house, and verify guests after you view them on your Nest doorbell.

It’s quite useful that Nest has transitioned into a security company, because back when the company was only making thermostats this partnership didn’t make a whole lot of sense. This should integrate nicely into the Nest ecosystem, and we’re excited to see where the partnership goes in the future.

Is this product something that you would personally use? It seems that our houses are getting smarter and smarter every day, and soon you’ll be able to control absolutely everything with you phone.
