Electric scooters are all the hype in modern transportation trends. These wheeled companions are portable, efficient, convenient, and go far. But it’s not easy to know which cheaper scooters are really worth the money in the increasingly crowded space. Which cheap scooter is best? And why?
Finding the right electric scooter on a budget is no easy task, so we are here to help. We have curated a list of what we feel are the best cheap electric scooters, so stick around to find your next ride!
What is an “affordable” electric scooter?
Of course, price is always relative. Electric scooters are not cheap and prices can go well into the thousands of dollars. But it all depends on what you need from your scooter for your commute, or for some fun.
All things considered, we say anything under about $500 should be “affordable” in electric scooter terms. That is the standard we are sticking to in this article, and we’ll do our best to come under that price. We won’t feature any scooters over said price point, and if they get close to it, they better be worth it. Now, let’s get started.
Razor Power Core E90
This is the most affordable scooter you’ll find without buying a piece of junk. It’s well worth its price and it’s a basic scooter aimed at younger people. The Razor Power Core E90 costs only $119.99, but in order to be this cheap it does sacrifice performance. It can go no faster than 10mph and a full battery should last about 80 minutes.
Furthermore, this scooter is meant only for kids, with a weight capacity of 120lbs. Those of us a little more on the heavier side should consider something a little more powerful. Still, it’s good to know what’s at the bottom end for Christmas presents and the like.

The Razor R325 can go up to 15 miles per hour and allows for up to 40 minutes of continuous use. When you run out of battery on this thing, it still works great as a normal scooter, so you can always use leg power to finish getting where you need to go. If you’re just looking for something to commute to and from work, this is a great option. At double the price of the RazorPower Core E90, you get something for adults that can actually get you there.
If your office is more than 20 minutes away, we’d recommend you purchase an extra battery charger along with your scooter for charging at both ends. You can purchase an additional one for only about $14.

Swagtron Swagger Electric Scooter
It’s hard to disregard Swagtron when we look at electric transportation. The company has slapped a battery and motor on almost every traditional mode possible and scooters are no exception. The Swagtron Swagger is made of ultra-lightweight carbon fiber, and aims for a max speed of 15 miles per hour with a range of up to 15 miles per charge.
There is some extreme shock absorption built into this unit and the company is aiming to make sure this is going to be a smooth ride. There is a spring built into the large front section, which should mitigate bumps quite a lot throughout your ride. There is also a small control panel on the top which will give you access to your battery life and speed, so you can get all your important information at a glance.
The Swagger folds up to store easily much like the other options on the market, so don’t worry about fitting it into tighter spaces. At only $279, this is quite the option, and we’d urge you to check it out before you make a purchasing decision.

GOTRAX GXL Commuting Electric Scooter
The GOTRAX GXL Commuting Electric Scooter comes in just under $300 and packs a solid 250watt motor. The top speed measures in at 15.5mph and the scooter can carry as much as 220lbs. It’s got two gears, and in first you’re limited to 10mph but you have a bit more torque to help with slopes or rough going. It comes with a digital speedometer to keep track of your travels too.
The body is both portable and sturdy. And if your terrain is not too smooth, you do get the advantage of 8.5-inch pneumatic tires, which should absorb shock very well.

Razor EcoSmart Metro Electric Scooter
The EcoSmart Metro scooter almost looks like an electric bike with its large size, big wheels, and wide handling, but since it lacks pedals it still classifies as a scooter. Given you can sit on it, and it features an extra large deck to be able to place your feet on when riding, plus a rack on the back of the scooter to attach a basket, this is a very different option to the grab-and-fold scooter. This thing would be great for commuting to the store and back, as you’ll be able to store stuff in the back without weighing yourself down with a backpack.
The scooter has a max speed of 18 miles per hour and is rated to go 10 miles per charge. This isn’t quite as good as a lot of the other options available on the market, but is made for a much more specific use case. It weighs 67 pounds, so you won’t be carrying this thing in one arm, but will likely only be using it to commute to places where you can store it easily. It will also take 12 hours to charge this thing fully, so you won’t be able to get a very fast charge if you need some more power on the fly.
If you’re looking for a seated option that can help you lug some stuff around town, the EcoSmart Metro electric scooter is a great option.

Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter M365
One scooter definitely worth a mention is the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter M365. It’s not exactly far under the price limit at $499.99, but some vendors sell it for a little less, and it is packing a lot in its frame.
The Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter features a top speed of 15.5mph and can reach about 18.6 miles on a single charge so it has the legs for speed and endurance. Its max load is measured at 220lbs, which means it should carry most adults comfortably. The M365 also comes with integrated LED lights, including both a headlight and tail lights.
This is one hell of a scooter, but the main issue is availability. For whatever reason, Xiaomi has not made it available in every country, and where it is available the Mi Electric Scooter M365 might still be a bit hard to find as it’s regularly out of stock.
In the USA you can find it in Amazon, but stock is running out soon. Walmart is already out of stock, but you may be luckier with Newegg, which seems to still have it available for purchase – we have the direct links below. If you get it, you’re lucky!
