We now have the final trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, little more than a month before the film releases theatrically. The star-studded, action-packed film will see the entire lineup of Marvel heroes facing their biggest threat: Thanos.
The trailer opens with a melodramatic tone, as Guardians of the Galaxy’s Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is heard talking about her adoptive father, who is also known as The Mad Titan. “The entire time I knew him he only ever had one goal: To wipe out half the universe,” she says. “If gets all the Infinity Stones, he can do it with the snap of his fingers. Just like that.”
The trailer cuts away to several different Marvel heroes as they prepare for the fight of their lives. Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Vision (Paul Bettany) both wield infinity stones, which Thanos is looking for. “We have what Thanos wants,” we hear Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) saying. “So that’s what we use.”
We then cut away to Wakanda and several of the Avengers meeting with Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), followed by some comic relief from a meeting between Stark, Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), and Drax (Dave Bautista).
There are more scenes of our heroes as they prepare for war, with Wakanda and Black Panther prominently featured throughout. One point in the trailer shows Captain America (Chris Evans) fighting off Thanos, who is already in position of two stones. The two-minute trailer then ends with more comic relief between Spider-Man and Dr. Strange as they awkwardly introduce each other.
The Avengers: Infinity War release date was pushed up from May 4 to April 27. Many fans were excited for the push, although some were irritated that it threw off their Marvel movie marathons. I’m slightly irritated for the missed opportunity of releasing the film exactly ten years after Iron Man, which opened May 2, 2008.
