Apple has recruited M. Night Shyamalan (Split, The Sixth Sense) to executive produce a new thriller series, according to a report by Variety. The series will be written by Tony Basgallop (24: Legacy) and will be released exclusively through Apple. Details about plot or casting have yet to be revealed.
Additional executive producers include Ashwin Rajan, Jason Blumenthal, Todd Black, and Steve Tisch with Taylor Latham co-executive producing. The production will be led by Shyamalan’s Blinding Edge Pictures.
This will be the second television show Shyamalan has been involved with. His first effort, Wayward Pines, was cancelled after just two seasons. Apple seems to have faith in him though, as they ramp up their investments in original productions. The company began ordering several series starting last year, including a revival of Steven Spielberg’s anthology series Amazing Stories.
Shyamalan’s upcoming series may prove more successful than the last, even though his works are known for being fairly polarizing. I, for one, still refuse to forgive him for the hot mess that was The Last Airbender.
