We at DGiT are committed to using technology for good! Whether that’s making sure you have something good to watch on Netflix or helping you set up a smart home, we want to get the most out of our devices.
Last week, we showed you how to use Alexa to help you get a good night’s sleep, and now, we want to make sure you’re getting up on time using your Amazon assistant.
So below is a breakdown of how to create your own Alexa alarm clock. And we’re not just talking a basic alarm clock. You can set up Alexa to do a whole lot more than just wake you up — though you can do that too, if that’s your morning jam.
How to set an Alexa alarm
If you do just want that classic alarm, it’s pretty intuitive.
Say “Alexa, set an alarm for 7am,” or whenever it is you want to wake up. If you forget the “am,” Alexa will check in and make sure she knows what you need.
When the alarm goes off in the morning, just say “Alexa, turn off,” and that’s it. You’ve turned off your alarm. Okay, realistically, you’ll actually say “Alexa, snooze,” for an extra nine minutes of peaceful sleep, but you get the idea.
You can also set numerous alarms, and they won’t cancel each other out.
How to set an Alexa radio alarm
You definitely have more options than just a classic old alarm with Alexa. If you prefer to wake up to music, Alexa can handle that. You can even pick the song, provided it’s available in your library or Spotify account, or whatever you have synced to Alexa.
Give it a try: “Alexa, wake me up to ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’ by Wham! at 7am,” or whatever song and time suits you.
You can also have Alexa wake you up to a radio station (using the TuneIn skill) or a specific news service. “Alexa, wake me up to KACL 780 at 7am,” for example, or “Alexa, wake me up to NPR at 7am.”
Create an Alexa morning routine
Feel free to get creative with how Alexa wakes you up by creating your own customized morning routine.
You could set up Alexa to turn your lights on when it’s time to wake up, setting the dimmer to slowly illuminate you as though the sun is rising in your own bedroom.
If that’s not enough, couple it with an alarm or song.
And while you’re at it, why not make the morning routine include turning on your smart coffee maker so you have one less thing to worry about.
The only limit is you. Include as many smart devices as you have connected to make your morning routine whatever you want it to be.
Alexa alarm clock: Wrap up
As you can see, Alexa is easy to use as an alarm clock. Whether you need a standard morning call or something a little more customized, she’s well equipped to get you up on time.
