Where do you watch your anime? One great source happens to be Netflix, and we made it our goal to find the best Netflix anime available.
Unlike Trix, cartoons are not just for kids. Anime is a pure testament of that. These action-packed shows and movies have captivated the world, grabbing the attention of adults and kids alike. In this post, we will showcase some of the best Netflix anime options, which include classics, recent works, and even Netflix Originals.
Let’s dig right in!
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods
If you are a follower of the Super Saiyan tales, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods will make you feel right at home. The plot takes place after Frieza’s defeat, which urges Whis to wake God of Destruction Beerus.
Believing Goku to be a Super Saiyan God from an old prophecy, they embark on a quest to find a worthy adversary for a good battle.
Saint Seiya: Lost Canvas
Have you heard of Saint Seiya? Probably not. For some reason it never became a big hit in the U.S., but its popularity in Latin America and other parts of the world was of gargantuan proportions. The franchise was so popular that it sparked a boom in toys, action figures, clothes, and other accessories related to the series.
There’s not much of Saint Seiya on Netflix (or many other American streaming services), but what we do have is The Lost Canvas, a special season that goes back 250 years before the original series. It takes place during a Holy War, in which Athena’s saints have to face Alone, the reincarnation of the God Hades. The season is full of epic battles, as well as a touch of friendship, loyalty, and morality.
Robotech is an anime classic that was actually quite popular in the U.S., but many of you may not remember it. This is because it was first aired in the U.S. back in 1985.
The story revolves around robot technology found in an alien spaceship, which is then used by humans to create robots that allow them to protect the planet from outside invaders. Much like Transformers, these robots can transform into other human technology, such as planes.
Chances are you have heard of this franchise already, as this animated series is based on very popular Konami video game. It was then launched as a TV series by Netflix, feeding an already enthusiastic crowd of fans as some of the best anime on Netflix.
The story revolves around a trio of warriors who aim to defeat Count Vlad Dracula Tepes (yes, the vampire). Count Vlad Dracula is trying to make the people of Wallachia pay after his wife was falsely accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake. The three warriors trying to defeat the feared vampire are Trevor Belmont, magician Sypha Belnades, and Dracula’s very own son, Alucard.
The plot is a bit weird, so bear with us on this one. Full Metal Alchemist follows the story of brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric. They are in search of the Philosopher’s Stone, which would allow them to regain their bodies, after losing them in an attempt to bring their mother back to life.
The first series ended with the sequel film Conqueror of Shamballa, back in 2005. Then Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood came back in 2009. Brotherhood is also available on Netflix, as well as a live-action movie released in 2017 exclusively by Netflix.
Don’t be fooled by the welcoming image above. Death Note is a scary, yet very interesting anime that follows the story of Light Yagami. This student gets a hold of a notebook that grants the power to kill anyone who’s name is written on it. Light aims to use this Death Note to improve his world by getting rid of crime, but his efforts soon catch the attention of a detective.
This anime has gained wide popularity, so you are definitely in for a treat. It is certainly among the best Netflix anime shows.
Rurouni Kenshin continues to be one of the most popular manga series in the world, with over 70 million copies in circulation. Furthermore, it received a wide North American release thanks to Viz Media and Media Blasters. It was even aired on Cartoon Network, so we know many of you are likely familiar with it already.
Needless to say, it’s one of the best anime on Netflix, and it’s worth a watch. Not only for its popularity, but because of its unique approach. Himura Kenshin is a former assassin who vows to protect Japan’s people without killing a single person. While there is some action, the main character is trying to avoid it, so the writers have focused on the depth of the story.
Of course, we can’t forget Naruto. It was probably the favorite anime of its generation, and up until 2017, it was the third best-selling manga in history, reaching over 220 million copies in 35 countries outside Japan. It was a hit, and you are sure to enjoy it.
The series follows the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a ninja who simply wants recognition from his village and friends. He hopes to become the leader of his village, so join him in his adventures.
Attack on Titan
Titans suddenly appeared over 100 years before this story begins. They started eating and terrorizing humans. Those who survived now live within three protective walls, but titans seem to have disappeared.
Join Eren, Mikasa, and Armin as they join the military and protect people from these titans. They will discover more along the way, so expect some plot twists and surprises.
Kurosaki Ichigo has been able to see ghosts since he was a small child, but it was never an issue until he and his sisters were attacked by a Hollow (evil spirit). They get help from a Death God named Kuchiki Rukia. The Death God is injured and must transfer her abilities to Ichigo, who must now act as a Death God to maintain balance between the living and the dead.
